1984: The Party's Biggest Threat - Love

Party, as it emphasises a division of loyalty by creating bonds that aren't with The Party itself and threatens an enhancement towards an individual's success that The Party does not want, which can arguably be the main factors that play the biggest role on why so many tragedies happen in this novel.
The first reason on why love is the biggest threat to The Party, is that love creates a division of loyalty. In Orwell's novel, The Party is depicted as a jealous sort of dictatorship in regards to how they perceive their citizens on doing things that they don't like. This can be identified as the main protagonist of the story, Winston Smith, falls in love with a girl named Julia (whose last name is not identified distinctively in the novel) after many years of being under the distressed ways of how The Party operates. Winston knows that what he's doing is wrong with Julia, as O'Brien, an inner Party member explains to Winston:

and satisfies one stage, they move up to the next, and so on and so forth (Notman 70). The stage that is of relevance is the need to feel loved or accepted. In the novel, The Party manipulates this hierarchy in a way that forces its citizens to stay loyal to them.
A prime example would be the parents in the novel. The parents showcased in Orwell's novel can be seen as the group of people who experience no love or affection the most throughout the entire novel. One reason would be going back to what O'Brien preached about how in a marriage, it isn't even a marriage, and that the love between the spouses is fake and just a lie throughout the whole thing.
