The internet has become an integral part of society in the past few years. It’s used for almost everything. From school, to work, to socializing, the internet is one of the primary modes of communication between people from all over the world. It has become so prolific that many people have taken internet use to a whole new level. Not only are people using it to communicate and learn, they’ve made the internet into an entire sub-culture in itself. They call themselves anonymous and they hold a power that few thought possible. Soon after, the internet boomed. The heavy use caused strain on networks and computers alike, thus pushing the demand for faster, more efficient computers and connections. Dial-up was not a very user friendly way of connecting to the internet. It was slow, made obnoxious dial tones, and was overall unreliable (Beal, 2006). Due to popular demand, computer companies and internet providers developed faster connections. People once limited to 56 kbps dial-up were blasted with the super fast 8 mbps DSL and the even faster 20 mbps cable connection soon after (Beal, 2006). The internet became lightning fast, and so did the birth of its society.
