Jing mei went to China, not only to meet her sisters she never met before, but more importantly, to learn more about her family heritage and background. She wanted to find out who she really was deep inside. She also had a number of unanswered questions about her mother that she wanted to discover.

Right from the beginning she was surprised as she arrived at the train station where she saw crowds of people wearing drab Western clothes, as she described, with spots of bright colors and old ladies in gray tops and pants that stop mid-calf.
