A Separate Peace shows the life of boys who have begun to lose their innocence and are on their way to becoming men. us that war is a dispiriting time, and that during such a time it seems like it will go on forever. â€œWinterâ€™s occupation seems to have conquered, overrun and destroyed everythingâ€. This quote can be used to show what happens post-war. Everything is run down and destroyed and whoever won the war has conquered. The author uses warlike terminology to describe the setting of the Winter Carnival. â€œThe Saturday was a battleship grayâ€ was what he to describe the atmosphere of the Winter Carnival. The author purposely uses this wording to reveal how the world around them is becoming more and more militaristic.
