A World Without Freedom


As I envision , I gaze into a lifeless jail cell and my heart is broken at the sight I am forced to witness. I can feel the sorrow and grief penetrate the cold prison bars and with a quick glance a blurred image flashes before my eyes. I see myself with my hands and legs clasped in chains and shackles. My mouth is taped shut and no words are spoken even as my mouth struggles to speak. My eyes are kept hidden by a handkerchief that is tied around my head. When I return to reality, I find myself with the fear of how it would be without freedom. The image I envisioned represents a metaphor of my life without freedom.

to look through the eyes of others rather than my own. This means that I must accept other’s opinions even if I do not agree with them because not having freedom means that I am not entitled to my own opinions.
As a result, without freedom I would not be in the position where I am now. Instead I would be nonexistent with no identity because there would be no freedom to help me become the person I choose to be. With no freedom and no identity, there would be no reason for me to sit and think about what is to become of my life. Rather, I would be forced to stress about the next day when my struggle again repeats itself as it did the day before. The only challenge I face then is whether or not I can redeem myself at the end of the following day.
I think about the stories of my parents’ pasts without freedom and regret taking my life that is filled with freedom for granted. If I were to be forced to live my life without freedom, I would find it impossible to do so because ...
