was a great man who rose from extremely humble beginnings in Kentucky to become the president of the United States. ’s views on slavery rooting from his childhood as well as his life extending to his assassination greatly influenced the United States of America.

than one total year of education. Abraham did not have that much education because there were no teachers to teach him and his peers (Stefoff 15). Abraham also read as much as possible and he always found ways to find moments for reading. When he was plowing a field, for example, he carried a book and read a page or two at the end of each row, while the horses rested. “I never saw Abe after he was twelve that he didn’t have a book in his hand or in his pocket,” Dennis Hank later marveled. “It didn’t seem natural to see a feller read like that” (Stefoff 18).
Lincoln entered politics at an exciting time; he ran for state legislature and had a disappointing loss. He came in eighth out of thirteen candidates. In 1834 Lincoln ran for office again this time he placed second out of thirteen candidates and was elected to a two-year term in Illinois House of Representatives (Stefoff 30-34).
