Adeline's Life in Chinese Cinderella

Chinese Cinderella is an autobiography by Adeline Yen Mah. She suffers through physical and emotional abuse throughout the whole book. Some family members make her suffer and while others care for her. Even though Adeline struggles, she still perseveres in her education. She gets high grades on her schoolwork and has received numerous awards at the end of the school year. Her family (except Ye Ye, Aunt Baba, and Third Brother) doesn’t recognize her achievements and intelligence by looking at her perfect scholastic record. Adeline’s three brothers had to get the hair on their heads basically shaven off completely and Fourth Brother didn’t have to have his hair be shaven. All of her siblings complained that they should all wear the same clothes and have the same hair style.
