in Ulm, Germany. His parents were Hermann and Pauline Einstein. His father was an electrical engineer who had a small electrical contracting firm. Six weeks after Albert Einstein was born, the family moved to Munich where his father founded an electrical equipment manufacturing company, where his sister was born on November 18, 1881. In 1894 they moved to Italy because the business had not been successful.

When he was very young he was slow in development. He did not speak until he was two years old and even when he was older he had trouble answering a question. His teachers thought he would never be successful at anything.

As a child, Einstein never observed Jewish religious practices. In elementary school he was the only Jew in a Catholic school. Einstein found work as an assistant professor and eventually as a full professor of theoretical physics. He preferred researching to teaching and in 1914 he accepted a paid research position in Berlin, Germany. In 1933 the rise of Nazi power in Germany, meant Einstein had to resigned from his work in Berlin and go to the United States, where he took up residence in Princeton, New Jersey and assumed a position on the faculty of Princeton´s Institute for Advanced Study.
