We Americans feel so lucky because we have not had a war fought on our own soil for so long, and the last time we really did suffer due to a war was the Viet Nam war. Or was it? What about the war on drugs? Can you believe that this war has been going on for 80 years now (Lewis A15)? Wouldn’t we like to see it end? I am sure that the answer to that question is yes. "According to a Gallup poll, 94 percent of 1,020 adults surveyed September, 1996 viewed drug abuse as a crisis or serious problem for the United States (Wren A13)." Have we not learned our lesson from Prohibition? It only took us a mere 14 years to repeal prohibition (Lewis A15). Why don’t we legalize narcotics?

There’s no comparison (Lewis A15)." Yet these vices are not outlawed or criminalized. "We have wisely chosen to deal with it by regulation and education, not prohibition.
