The men and women who struggled to attain cultural and religious freedoms in the eighteenth century would scoff at the timidity and apathy that plagues many Americans. We have become too complacent and take for granted much of what we enjoy today. However, the events of September 11, 2001 have been a huge wake-up call. Millions of Americans rally to the cause of promoting freedom and justice around the world. We are no longer afraid to assert ourselves and demand that all human beings be afforded the freedoms that each American enjoys.
War is often an unfortunate necessity in the big picture. American independence from Britain was won because of the courage of soldiers.
