Scout says, "Hey Mr. Cunningham. How's your entailment gettin' along?...I go to school with Walter...and he does right well. He's a good boy.” (Lee 204). Here, Scout obviously does not realize the severity of the situation. Instead, she somehow has a completely casual conversation with Mr. Cunningham at the most inappropriate of times. It is her naivete, cluelessness, and pure innocence that eventually leads to defuse the situation. This is also why Atticus did not scold her; she did not know any better. Being innocent, also allows for Scout to easily identify issues with their racist and hypocritical society.
