The Cry of Love

Sadness. This perhaps is the first impression a reader would see in the man's feeling upon reading the first verse of the poem.

I gaze at you, longing longing, as from a gilt and scarlet cage, silent, speak your name cry - Love me.

It speaks of a man that yearns for that something he's staring at, which, however, was motionless. This, at the near end of the poem, was revealed that the man is speaking to his tattoo. "Love me" was the cry of the man, a sad emotion revealed by him, perhaps was feeling painful and crying inside because of his need for love.

The poem describes that the man is tattooed in many parts of his body. For his desperate feeling of love, he endured the painful process of having a tattoo of the woman's face. However, perhaps because of unrequited love from the woman for whom he would do anything, and who perhaps had went away, the man was asking her the question "why". A reader's point of view may find that the man has a deep feeling of love for the woman. The images and the dialogues used in the poem can make a reader imagine that the tattooed man was crying inside because of this feeling.

I yearn I yearn.

These are all declarations of how much the man feels and longs for the woman.

Passionate. Undergoing a change makes the man fear that the woman would also change.
