This article was a very interesting read. It talks about a study done at Indiana University about your skin and its microbiomes. The researchers wanted to see if the microbiomes on your skin are able to affect how bacterial pathogens are able to produce infection.
In this particular study they actually had a human skin infection to utilize as a model so they determined this research would be better than any that had been done previously. This study allowed the researchers to see the skins microbial parts and the resolution of their infections. Helping them to better understand how exactly things were growing and healing or clearing up.
These researchers plan to continue with plenty of follow up studies on a much bigger scale to include viral and fungal infections.
It is interesting to learn how our skin may or may not have the ability to fight off infection and can help us to better identify who has the ability and who may not. It is better if we can let our bodies fight off infections if it can so there isn't an overuse of antibiotics which could potentially cause some infections to become resistant to antibiotics.
