Animal Farm: Summary

Animal Farm is an anti-Utopian novel written by George Orwell
shortly after the time of Joseph Stalin’s rule over Russia. It was written
several years before Penguin Putnam published it in 1946. George Orwell,
formerly known as Eric Blair, was an Englishman who frequently opposed
communism. This book was written to blatantly denounce communism and to “
wake up” the Russian people. The book is 149 pages long and has no
pictures.

This tragic story takes place on a poor farm in England. The animal’
s owner, Mr. Jones, was a drunkard and didn’t care about the welfare of
his animals. The main characters, the pigs, were very cunning and

Of all the
animals on the farm, Squealer was the propagandist. He was the one who
revised the history that the animals knew to cover up for their actions.
Boxer, who was known for being a super strong scrupulous steed, was
gullible yet always faithful to the pigs. Throughout this story, he had
two sayings, “Napoleon is always right” and “I will work harder” Boxer
believed that working harder would obliterate all troubles. However, his
attempts to make things better were futile. He was alike all the other
animals on the farm, who were naļve and gullible, believing every lie that
the pigs declared. The conflict of the story was initiated by Old Major’s
speech. In his speech, this candid pig told of his desire for a better
life for the animals. His ideas were resolute. There was a great need to be
free from the disdain of man. He spoke about his vision of a better life
and equality among all the animals. And the only way to achieve this dream
