Illegal immigration has emerged as a very significant issue in the United States, especially in the southern states bordering Mexico. Although the U.S. is a melting pot of all different races, nationalities and beliefs, there are numerous legal ways to immigrate and several illegal ones. Arizona has one of the fastest growing illegal immigrant populations in the country, increasing from 330,000 in the year 2000 to 560,000 by 2008 (Camarota). Section SB 1070 Section 2 should be removed from the Arizona immigration laws, and it should be replaced by a new proposal, called the Wilson proposal. It will eliminate the extreme racial profiling by law enforcement, and the discrimination felt by the legal immigrants and the Hispanic community. It will also help hard working law enforcement officials to perform their jobs better and more efficiently. The new Wilson proposal puts certain restrictions on law enforcement officers, but still gives them enough authority to allow the Arizona immigration laws to remain strong and effective.
