Coming into aerobic barre this summer, I was very eager and excited to get my body in shape. Last summer was such a great experience for me - it was the first time I really began understanding ballet technique - I was anticipating the same growth this year. I was correct! Because this summer I came in with a year of dancing in the college atmosphere, I was equipped with more knowledge and understanding, therefore I received even more out of Ballet Analysis this time around. I also noticed that at the beginning of the course, my feet would cramp terribly during the releves, but as I got stronger, the cramping stopped and my releve became much higher. The balances in coupe were extremely helpful. I learned that if I really press my working knee back and shift my weight way over my supporting leg, I can balance much longer. I also noticed, however, that when I balance I find myself tensing my upper body and staring like a "zombie". This is, of course, one of the things I will be working on. During the rond de jambes in fondu, I discovered I was pronating my supporting foot. I corrected that, but everyday I had to really think about that foot.

I learned so much from the tendu exercises in aerobic barre. There is such an unbelievable amount of things to think about when executing a tendu. The great thing about these particular tendu exercises is that you start out with slow tendus, so you can focus on your placement before they speed up. I learned a lot about the transfer of weight while staying on the balls of your feet. The best way to check yourself is by letting go of the barre and doing a releve.
