This person has influenced Texas is someone that I think, has worked her whole life for. This native Texan worked hard all her life to become a positive role model. Miss Jordan did not set out to become a hero or a leader on purpose, but she knew what she wanted to accomplish. She reached her success and goals by hard work, compassion, perseverance, and sacrifice. In her later years she stated, "I didn't want to become a symbol for anything...but I hope that the nation will see me as a human being who is qualified for the position I hold."

but that doesn't stop her. She ran for the House of Representatives twice in 1962 and in 1964 but she was unsuccessful. That did not discourage her because fin 1966 she was elected for the Texas state congress and to the House of Representatives in 1972 with re-elections in 1974 and 1976. She overcame her issues by persevering what she believed in and what she could do. She once stated when she assisted in the impeachment of President Nixon, "My faith in the Constitution is whole, it is complete, it is total." She alone paved the way for African Americans that would want to be lawyers, congressman, and other political leaders. Representatives Sheila Jackson Lee quoted about Jordan and said, "She realized she might be particularly charged to hold up the ethical litmus test for politicians in America, and she was not afraid to do so.
