Baton Rouge is a city on the Mississippi River and also the capital of Louisiana. Baton Rouge is the second largest metropolitan city in Louisiana with a population estimation of 230,000. The Greater Baton Rouge area has a population of 825,000 while the urban area has about 600,000.
In 1699 a French explorer by the name of Pierre Le Moyne, Sieur d'Iberville discovered Baton Rouge.
