Beowulf: The Mighty Protector Of Men



Beowulf is the ideal fighter of the everlasting struggle between
good and evil. He is a perfect hero for his time and his legend will last
forever. Some of the heroic qualities he possesses are courage, strength,
and loyalty.
Beowulf shows his courage many times in this poem. One example of
this is by him going to Herot after so many people had been killed there.
He also shows his courage by battling Grendel, Grendel’s mother, and the
dragon. A final example of Beowulf’s courage is when he battles the dragon
even though he himself is an old man.

Beowulf possesses much strength. For instance, Beowulf is described
as the “Follower and strongest of the Geats-greater/ And stronger ...

that he’d go to that famous king,
Would sail across the sea to Hrothgar,
Now when help was needed”(114-116)

describes Beowulf’s reason for his journey to Hrothgar to save his people
from Grendel. In another line, Beowulf is described as: “that noble
protector of all seamen”(596). This proves he really cares about the likes
of other people and what happens to them. Another example of his loyalty
is when he is battling the dragon. After all his men deserted him, except
Wiglaf, he still made sure he killed the beast for the safety of all
people.

Beowulf is a very courageous, strong,and loyal character. He will
represent the struggle between good and evil forever. He will always
remain the ideal hero for his times. ...
