Bioengineered Crops

Genetically modified plants have been around for as long as people have been cultivating plants. Historically, genetic modifications have been the results of benefits and errors. The cross breeding of seeds are kept from the best plants to plant the following year in order to reproduce favorable traits. Because of this farmers, and company distributors have caused plants to be modified to grow bigger, taste better, and last longer. that it needs to be done rapidly due to the growing population. He encourages the reader that Genetically modified foods are good and will continue to get better. Hoffman states many mouths can be fed from biotechnology foods. The only weakness of this literature in my opinion is the fact that it is only coming from one persons point of view about a particular subject. There are no sources in this literature; however the opposing source stating reasoning on why Biotechnology is bad has sources from prestigious individuals. In the literature Hoffman explains how genes can be inserted into the major food crops, like rice, corn, wheat and potatoes to make them resistant to pests and diseases without the need of any chemicals. They also make them resistant to drought, cold, heat and other dangerous conditions.
