Book Review: Pride And Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice is my favorite novel of Jane Austen. I’ve read it and watch it a several times. I think we need romance in this cruel, selfish, rushing world. Elizabeth’s world seems to be a wonderful place to escape from modern life, where we could meet charming characters, lovely people, nice surroundings. Although her world isn’t perfect, they have their own problem and struggles, what could be annoying or even insupportable for us, or sometimes ridicule.

other till half way through the story. Wickham has a turbulent past and has clashed swords with Darcy more than once before. Lady Catherine de Bourgh has a tiff with Elizabeth. Caroline competes with Elizabeth for Darcy.

There are three main themes in the novel. These themes are love and marriage, good breading and social rank, and moral belief and behavior. These themes are present throughout the entire novel they are the underlying motif of the story.

The heroine of Pride and Prejudice is Elizabeth Bennet, partly because of her wonderful wit; her perfectly formed arguments, quips and rebuttals are as unobtainable to the average person as the size zero figures that mark most of today`s female icons, but her lack of extraordinary physical beauty makes her both an inspirational character and also a kind of girl-next-door with whom everyone can identify.
