"A Bridge So Far": Japan's Alkashi Kaikyo Bridge



All the time man is trying to better himself and accomplish the
impossible. Japan's Alkashi Kaikyo Bridge does accomplish the impossible.
Japan is made up of four islands and after the building of the Alkashi
Kaikyo Bridge, they are connected.
Now, Japan is the proud owner of the four largest bridges in the
world. The Alkashi Kaikyo is 12,828 ft. long, stretching more than two
miles. Building a bridge that size in itself is an amazing feat, but in
Japan they also had to build the bridge so it was strong enough to
withstand an earthquake of an enormous magnitude. They were able to do
just that. The bridge is able to withstand an earthquake of 8.5 on the

That feature is mass dampers that include pendulums that help stabilize
the towers. This stabilizer was needed since the two towers are almost as
tall as the Eiffel Tower.
I love to watch how we accomplish so many great things and
hopefully I can be one of those people who is on the cutting edge someday,
but we can't develop a god-like complex or we will be in a lot of trouble.
The problem is many people could be going down that road, so some people
need a reality check so that they will get back on the straight and narrow
path.
