Buddhism and Hinduism

To this day, the main controversy between Buddhism and Hinduism is whether or not Buddhism is derived from Hinduism. This belief is widely unaccepted with the Buddhist population and their reasoning behind this is because while there are similarities between the two belief systems, they are indeed very different. The similarities the two belief systems share could be fact that Buddhism “developed out of the same period of religious questioning that shaped modern Hinduism”. Another key factor could be that they both evolved in India, where traders and shipmen helped begin the spread of the two religions throughout the world.

Hinduism are often called Guru, holy man, or Brahmin priest. The Hindus practice the art of meditation and rituals as it is said to enhance inner peace with oneself. There is no one holy book for Hinduism, although the Hindus often refer to and study sacred texts such as the Vedas and the Puranas. Hinduism continued to move away from the people. With Hinduism, the closest connection you could achieve is by being a priest. Because priest’s had the most direct connection with the belief system, they started to dominate. The Hindus also followed the Aryan Caste System which is a social system that could determine what work you did, whom you could marry, and so on.
The story behind Buddhism starts with its founder, Siddhartha Gautama (c. 563-483 B.C.). According to many Buddhist legends, when Siddhartha was born, he had the attributes of a great man.
