Candide: Voltaire's View Of Human Condition

Voltaire’s Candide provokes a horrific tales of its characters actions that forces the reader to feel in a strange mood, such as laughter. Although, he instructs the reader to be in serious attention of the story’s point of view. This philosophical tale is based on the art of black comedy.
Voltaire’s primary purpose in writing Candide was to demolish the theory of optimism in which he used exaggeration. For instance, the carnage of the Bulgar-Abar conflict, the tempest and earthquake, the apparent death of Cunegonde and the actual death of her parents, the experiences during the Inquisition, are all noticeable events that have been described in exaggerated terms.

Caricature and parody, ways in which the author exaggerated details of one sort or another for the same purpose, are noticed evidently in the story. For instance, the old woman’s story about how she became a servant in which she journeyed through hardships of her life by pleasing her masters’ wishes.
Exaggeration, understatement, and euphemism obviously lend themselves to caricature and parody as it was presented in the story. For instance, the Governor of Buenos Aires, with his multiple proper names and his insufferable pride is notable caricature. Fully to appreciate his usage of black comedy, recalling from the story, about the baron and his sister – the woman whose beauty had completely faded as a result of her suffering.
