had many ships and many hard times throughout his life, and
unfortunately he was hung on 5 counts of piracy. was born in
1645, in Scotland. He set sail in many ships including; The Adventure
Galley, Quedagh Merchant, and his last ship the Antonio. Many legends
about have made him the most famous of pirates. Acts of
piracy were never definitely linked to him and some authorities now doubt
that he was ever a pirate at all. In King William’s war between the
English and the French, he became known as the bold captain of a privateer
in the West Indies. Later, at the request of the governor of New York,
Kidd was given two commissions from the English king addressed to our

Adventure Galley. When he reached the West Indies in April
1699, he learned that he had been denounced as a pirate. He then abandoned
the Quedagh Merchant at the island of Hispaniola and got aboard a newly
purchased ship, the Antonio, and sailed to New York City.

There he tried to persuade the colonial governor of New York, the Earl of
Bellomont, of his innocence. Bellomont, however send Kidd to England for
trial

In May 1701 Captain Kidd was found guilty of murder of a mutinous sailor
and of five counts of piracy. There was evidence concerning two of the
piracy cases that was suppressed at the trial and some observers later
questioned whether the evidence was sufficient for a guilty verdict. Kidd
was sentenced to be hung. After he was hung in London, some of the
treasure was recovered from Gardiners Island off Long Island.
