Carpe Diem

The literature that came out of the renaissance comes directly from what was going on at that time, starting with the main idea of renaissance literature; Carpe Diem. Carpe Diem meant to seize the day or to live in the moment, something that wasn't encouraged during the Dark Ages. In the Dark Ages, life has bland and for most people things were the same every day. In the renaissance, people were encouraged to be free and live their lives for something more than just a routine.

that brought Europe back towards the state it was at the height of the Roman Empire. Back then, life wasn't set in a routine. During the Renaissance people actually lived. Seizing the day was what the philosophers like Plato and Aristotle did. Instead of fitting in with anyone else, they seized their days and led society. Seizing the day was also responsible for the technological advancements that were lost when the Dark Ages. When the renaissance started, the classical period of the Roman Empire and the Macedonian Empire (Ancient Greece) is what the philosophical leaders of the time were trying to rebuild.
