Case Against Human Embryo Use in Stem Cell Research

Human embryos are being destroyed right this second. Embryos are fertilized eggs. In some places of the world, embryos are considered living beings. Embryos are being used in medical research, but have bad results. It should be illegal to use human embryos in stem cell research because it has little to no good medical results, is against catholic beliefs, and destroys the embryos in the process.

Church constantly opposes stem cell research that uses human embryos” (Richert, 1). This statement shows that they agree and think it is both unethical and unnecessary to use human embryos. Both of these statements show how the Catholic Church is against human embryo use in stem cell research. Not only is the Catholic Church against embryos used in stem cell research, but this research also requires the destruction of the embryos.
Embryonic stem cell research requires the extraction of the stem cells from the embryos, destroying them in the process. An article, by Father Hodges, shows that harvesting embryonic stem cells also requires the destruction of embryos; here is a segment of that article: “Retrieving embryonic stem cells requires the destruction and killing of the humans that can be formed by the embryos the stem cells are extracted from” (Hodge, 1).
