Just as soon as independent websites are created and freedom of speech starts showing, they are raided by the police, who also make sure to carry away documents and computers used to store data. Most of these small websites stress the subject of media freedom and criticize the state’s decisions. “[Russia] has propaganda, not information”, a statement made by a spokesman for a media right foundation. Especially facing a new campaign for the fall election, which is being carefully managed by the Kremlin, censorship rules have reached their most restrictive since the breakup of the Soviet Union. The tactic they decided to use has been to impose state ownership on media companies and replaced the original editors with those who are supporters of Putin.
