Charles Dickens


was an English novelist and one of the most popular writers in the history of literature. In Dickens many books he combined master storytelling, humor, pathos, and irony with sharp social criticism and a keen observation of people and places both real and imagined. He had a great understanding of people and showed sympathy for the poor and helpless and mocked and criticized the selfish, the greedy and the cruel. His well-known books are A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield, Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, The Pickwick Papers, and A Tale of Two Cities.

People couldn’t possible believe that this was Dickens father so they just said that those characters were part of his imagination. John Dickens moved around quiet a bit. When Charles was not even two years old they moved for what would be a short stay to London and then moved to Chatam for what would be a longer stay, there Charles started school but soon all of that would change.
Charles who couldn’t of hardly been ten years old when the household was again in trouble was forced to get a job in a shoe shining factory, to help support the family. You see his father had fallen heavily into debt and in 1824 he was arrested leaving his wife the mother of eight children to fend for herself. Charles had a sense of humiliation and abandonment that haunted him for life. He only held the shoe shining job for a short period of time but just the misery of the experience left scars for life.
