Christ Figure in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

In Ken Kesey's, One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, we see a first person perspective from a character named Bromden. He tells the story of McMurphy and his time at the mental institution, spreading the word, in a sense, of his journey. Very similar to what Peter would come to do after Jesus' passing, Bromden spread his story of McMurphy in a gospel like sense, making McMurphy in a way Christ. Kesey delivers this great story using literary elements, the most prevailing of which would be the use of a Christ like figure. Furthermore, when McMurphy comes around to shaking Ellis' hand, Kesey doesn't waste it allowing it to be an allusion to the cross and it foreshadows McMurphy's own fate. On page 20 Kesey already explains how Ellis is nailed to the wall in the shape of a cross, so it is not farfetched to believe that Ellis could be John the Baptist and an antecedent to McMurphy, showing him what can come of him if he acts out of line. How he would get there is through Shock treatment. Another allusion set by the author, McMurphy accepts the treatment without much hassle allowing himself to be "crucified" just as Jesus was.
