storms into the garden because he is in rage, yet Alypius comes in and is with him while he cries. In their search for truth, unfortunately, Alypius follows Augustine into Manicheanism. Even though they both turn to Manicheanism, Alypius positively influences him in the way that he keeps pushing him to search for truth.
Alypius prevented Augustine from marrying so that they could continue their search for truth. Augustine's mother wants to see him settled down, so she plans to get him married. So, Augustine becomes engaged to a 10 year old. Alypius doesn't like this because then Augustine won't have any leisure time to continue deepening their "love of wisdom". If he had gotten married, Augustine would not have been able to keep searching for truth because he would have started a family and would've had no free time.
