two: What is an icon?

An icon is a sacred representation of Christ, the Mother of God, angles, saints, or even sacred history. The meaning of iconoclasm is “image breaking.” Many people where against icons because they really didn’t know what it was. They simply saw people adoring it and soon people preserved this as people having icons as an idol. They also didn’t think that the image of God could be captured. Therefore an icon was needed to be described. To start defining an icon, image needs to be described. Every person was created in the image and likeness of God. Then that mean when you look at someone the image and likeness of God should be seen. After the fall this truth was destroyed. We still are created in the image of God, but we lost the likeness. Also people pervert this image so the true image of God is hard to see. When these people started seeing these icons and the way people would look at them their guard came up quickly.
