Since the time that Charles Darwin introduced the theory of evolution in the 1830's, the Christian community (or perhaps those communities with any faith in a greater being) has been at odds with the scientific community. Although neither theory has been proven, the idea that is taught solely in the classrooms of public schools is the theory of evolution. Is it possible for both theories to be presented side by side in America's public school curriculum? Evolutionists are adamant about keeping religion out of school, according to the guidelines of the Constitution. The Supreme Court ruling that stated that creation science is religious in nature and cannot be legislated in the classroom (Flank) is one of the cornerstones of their argument. Another defense on which the Evolutionists base their view is that evolution is not simply "just a theory." They feel this accusation "demonstrates a basic ignorance of the methods and principals of science" (Flank).
