Creative Writing: The Chase


Alan and Dan lived in a small western town. They were good friends and had been for some time. The two high school seniors spent most weekends together. It was, however, a small town that they lived in, leaving them with nothing to do on a Friday night when there wasn't a party or sporting event. Saturday's were even worse and usually reserved for tracking down a girl or two. This Saturday night was no exception. It had rained for hours on a cool March afternoon that was now giving way to the darkness of night. The friends were determined to find something to occupy their evening.

less lucky when it came to the matter of getting a girl to ride with them. Mostly because when she would ask: what are we doing to do, they would reply: drive around for awhile. This was not something a high school girl wanted to hear from two guys. Even the slowest of females would come to the conclusion that the proposal wasn't entirely good hearted. In the case of Alan and Dan, they happened to be looking for company, company other than each other. Their intentions, truthfully, were always kind hearted. They couldn't expect every girl to know this however. In the end, most nights were spent driving around town until it was time to go home. Just the two of them, in Dan's old Honda, with the radio as loud as possible. Their Saturday nights were empty, but they were high school guys, and thus, content.
Alan shot down each of Dan's ideas. They were both beginning to think the night would be a bore. Dan pulled up to a red light. Looking forward a van preparing to turn left caught ...
