Gadotti's book is concerned with the conception and method of dialectics. Hegel's dialectics take a step down to Marx and Engel's dialectics.

"Hegel's dialectics were limited to the world of spirit, Gadotti espouses, while Marx inverts this, and explains the evolution of the material, of nature, and of mankind itself. Marx's dialectics is not merely a method to arrive at the truth. It is a conception of man, society, and the relationship between man and the world. "

Gadotti goes on to cite Marx and Engels with principals that show the contradiction in social history that capture the connection of the dialectic method, and the relationship between the exploited class and the exploiting class. The chapter continues a dialogue of Marxist views and ends with the statement," the political and economic failure of a concrete fulfillment of Marxist thought doesn't invalidate its anthropological perspective for the construction of a society of solidarity."
