In order to fully comprehend the concept of culturally responsive teaching one must garner knowledge with respect to three questions: What is a teacher? What is cultural diversity? How can both be meshed together for the practice of culturally responsive teaching? Without a clear understanding as to what these questions represent education in the twenty first century will be 'unresponsive' to the needs of those seeking an education. as to whether or not those views are construed as threatening or harassing. Viewpoints in the classroom, albeit at odds with society's view at times, are not only inevitable but also desirable.
Teachers come to a classroom with beliefs and backgrounds as different as those of the students themselves. As such the teacher has a responsibility and right to express views that are different as long as the expression is seen as an opposing viewpoint rather than as coercive ideology or cultism. The teacher, therefore, is entitled to personal expression if conducted in such a way as to foster a student's judgment and strengthen their interpretive power about what is being presented. Wherein a teacher has the freedom to present personal viewpoints on subject matters that might not be correct to some, the expression itself should be seen as the empowerment of the facilitation of a student's judgment and evaluative thinking process.
