Abstract

This religious interview was a chance for me to sit down with my mother and discuss our differing religious beliefs. My mother, Lola, is a Catholic, not a devout catholic, but definitely a religious woman. She was open and honest with how she viewed religion and it lead to a long and very informative conversation for both of us. help us understand each other better. She attends church regularly but not every Sunday, practices Lent, goes to Confession, and tries to follow most Catholic traditions, but is not as traditional or devout in her practices as many Catholics.
In the words of my mother, Lola, "we were raised to believe what the church and our parents told us and to not question things.' Catholicism, and many other religions as well, seem to be generally passed down from one generation to the next. I believe that this is a common attitude in the middle-aged Catholic community, especially here in the Midwest where we live. I was raised as a part of the catholic Church and I can recall this to some extent. I no longer consider myself a Catholic, and the so-called "blind following" has always been one of the issues I've had with the religion as a whole.
