For starters, a child who is allowed a television set in their bedroom is more likely to stay awake longer, spending their nights watching television instead sleeping. The constant lack of sleep paired with the extra hours of television watching will cause that child to be more apt to score lower on school tests and also more likely to develop sleeping problems. In a recent study, researchers examined whether or not television watching between ages 6-7 as well as during ages 8-9 affects cognitive development. Their results were calculated from mathematics and reading scores from children at ages 8 and 9.
