Emerson - Self Reliance

I really enjoyed reading Self Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson. I agree with a lot that Emerson says in the entire text. We are no longer individuals, we do not know how to stand on our own two feet. We don’t know the necessary skills to survive because we are too comfortable of what we are now. Emerson says that we are no longer a fit society. I don’t feel that Emerson believes we are not fit physically, but I feel he believes that we aren’t fit mentally, as well.
On page 151, Emerson states: “The civilized man has built a coach, but has lost the use of his feet. He is supported on crutches, but lacks so much support of muscle. He has a fine Geneva watch, but he fails of the skill to ...

Everybody was created equal, there wasn’t rich nor poor, which created a happy society.
