patients who unfortunately have the illness to end their discomfort. It makes the patient see no other way out and demolishes their hope. To solve the problems of the patient by allowing them to end their life does not help the next suffering person. It sends out signals of despair and helplessness from the health care system. It is cheaper to allow someone to die than provide them sufficient care until they pass naturally. It weakens the social prohibition against killing, and allows that some lives might not be worth protecting. It takes away the value of life, the beautiful gift we have each been given.

Legalising euthanasia advises sick people that their lives are no longer worthy to be saved, that “it is better for them to be dead than alive”. We all suffer when someone we know dies, but especially if they die due to disrespect towards life. It’s difficult to watch a loved one suffer, but knowing that you helped end their life would be the most difficult thing in the world. In a survey conducted in Oregon, USA, 66% of people who requested euthanasia did so because they didn’t want to be a burden on their families.
