The Birds, the movie, “The Birds,” the short story, appeal to different tastes of people. The movie is for those who love terrifying visual action, and the story is for those who generally like more traditional and “classic” things. The movie states the idea better because of its abundance in foreshadowing, and life-like, terrifying action. The bird attacks stay engraved in your mind, because of the camera effects which Alfred Hitchock does.
The short story was written by an English author, Daphne du Maurier. The story takes place in Cornwall, a small town on the sea, outside of London, England. The story starts on December 3, where winter had just occurred the previous night. ...

would bring no harm, but in reality, the birds kill all of them. Foreshadowing is used many times in this selection. When it is stated that the birds had been more restless than ever this fall of the year, it implies that something strange and unnatural is going on with the birds. Another example of foreshadowing in this selection is when smoke is not coming out of the chimney in the Trigg’s house, and the windows of the Trigg’s house were smashed. Dead and living gulls surround the house. The implication is that the Triggs are dead, for if they were alive, a fire would be burning and the windows would not be smashed. The military does try and intervene in this disaster, the military plan fails. The birds get caught up in the engine of the planes, and cause them to crash into the sea. Some think that the birds attacked because of their hunger. They had come from the Arctic Circle by the east wind, and they were very ravenous. Others blame the attacks on the Russians. ...
