In May of '83 I graduated from Cherryvale high school. I enrolled in Coffeyville Community College as a music major. In the two years that followed I learned about the occupation of being a music teacher and decided that it would be too time consuming with all the extra-curricular activities that a band teacher must be involved in. I thought that if I could get a full time job, I would probably make more money than a teacher and not have to devote so much time to my job. I dropped out of college and started looking for a job.

started looking for employment that would provide a more stable income.
I applied at many different businesses and got no response. However I just kept on applying anywhere I could find that would let me. My neighbor from across the street, came to my door one day and asked if I needed a job. She said that she was transferring to another department and could probably get me on at Quality Motors. I didn't care what kind of job it was as long as it paid more than minimum wage. I started at quality as a detail helper; before six months were up, I was assistant manager of the detail shop. I learned how to manage employees that were under me as I had a crew of three that would work evenings. The only thing I didn't care for was having to let employees go, some of them took it very hard. Again I was looking for better job opportunity so I could increase my benefits and wages.
