First, Break All the Rules: What the World's Greatest Managers Do Differently is a book by Marcus Buckingham and Curtis Coffman in which the authors discuss and analyze the misconceptions of standard management thinking and how good managers create and sustain employee satisfaction using information acquired through extensive interviews with 80,000 managers.
The core of the matter lies in how these managers have debunked old myths about management and how they created new truths on obtaining and keeping talented people in their organization. a manager should ensure that their employee is able to answer yes to each of the questions, If employees is able to answer yes to all of the listed questions then it is more than likely the organization has a strong workforce.
Buckingham and Coffman’s theory is that many managers are using incentives to encourage loyalty, which at the end of the day is more of an expense to the organization, and is not providing the results that these managers hoped for. The authors suggest these companies change their methods and use a measuring stick approach as a vetting process to weed out the top performers and help to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the organization. According to the authors, the basic things all managers should know are what the employee is expected to do, how to equip him to do it, and how to give praise for a job well done.
