Frank Lloyd Wright was an American architect, interior designer, writer and educator, who designed more than one thousand projects, which resulted in more than five hundred completed works. Wright promoted organic architecture, was a leader of the Prairie School movement of architecture, and developed the concept of the Usonian home. His work includes original and innovative examples of many different building types, including offices, churches, school, skyscrapers, hotels, and museums. Soon after Wright turned fourteen his parents separated because his mother had been unhappy for quite a while with his father’s inability to provide for the family and asked him to leave. After the divorce of his parents, Wright’s claimed to have never seen his father again. At this time, his middle name was changed from Lincoln to Lloyd. As the only male figure left in the family, Wright assumed financial responsibility for his mother and two sisters. Frank Wright was a student at Madison high school but never graduated. He later was admitted to the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a special student in 1886. As a student there, he took classes part-time for two semesters and worked with a professor of civil engineering. In 1887, Wright left the school without a degree, (although he was granted an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from the University in 1955.)
