Frederic Remington

Frederic Remington was an American illustrator and writer who worked for Hearst's New York Journal during the Spanish-American War. His paintings and writings mostly reflected on racism and imperialism that was going on in the 1900s and specialized in the Old American West. He was in favor of the westward expansion and openly supported it while also expressing it on paper. Because he encouraged the idea of an expansion, it leads to the idea that he also encouraged the policy of imperialism since it's an expansion to the Unites States as well. It was the Spanish-American War that America was able to obtain the islands of Puerto Rico, Guam, and Philippines. Remington was passionate in drawing of war scenes with guns, horses, and soldiers at the perfect moment, which some were false and inaccurate. However, they were so realistically painted that his they had so much meaning to them and was able to affect the people who read Hearst's newspaper. He expressed America's power in his action-packed paintings and drawings and represented American sense of self. This sent a sense of nationalism, which led to a stronger hunger for imperialism because more lands give more power to a country.
The United States should intervene in international affair pre-emptively. Frederic Remington did intervene in Spain's affairs with Cuba. He was sent by Hearst to illustrate Spanish's atrocities there. They were; however, exaggerated and false because their purpose was to only attract readers which was known to be called, Yellow Journalism. ...
