Domgymnasium, Nietzsche next attended the prestigious and well-known boarding school Schulpforta in 1858 via a scholarship. After graduation, Nietzsche went to the University of Bonn in 1864. At this school he studied various topics like theology and classical philosophy and he composed music. He then transferred to the University of Leipzig in 1865. Although he joined the military in 1867, he received an injury and went back to Leipzig. While there, he learned about Arthur Schopenhauer’s ideas and Richard Wagner’s compositions. Nietzsche would go on to being a classical philosophy professor at the University of Basel in 1869. Nietzsche’s health took a dramatic downturn in 1870 when he helped with medical in the military and contracted dysentery and diphtheria. This illness badly affected his health for the rest of his life.
