Gender Equality

"Equality between genders can never be achieved." Do you agree with this statement?

No, I do not agree that equality between genders can never be achieved. However, I do feel that achieving gender equality will definitely require a lot of time and effort.

What exactly is gender equality? Gender equality is when both genders possess equal rights and opportunities in society, including economic participation and decision-making, as well as when behaviours, aspirations and needs of both women and men are viewed as equally important.

By focusing on creating a more inclusive workplace and on hiring, retaining and developing diverse talent as well as drawing attention to the critical issues women face all around the world, they are improving the situation one step at a time. According to a report published on 11 March 2016, "Diversity metrics are improving and trending in a positive direction. At the end of 2015, women represented 29% of senior executives across Thomson Reuters -- up from 24.5% in 2012. Representation at the director and vice-president levels has also increased, from 28% in 2012 to 31% in 2015." Even though this is not the most desirable outcome, the fact that there is a significant improvement says a lot about what the Thomson Reuters Foundation has done and is continuing to do.
