is a disability that many people over look. People that do not understand what autism is tend to observe children with this disability and think of them as an outcast. In this matter, autistic children in public schools are treated differently then the regular students in the school. The way most public schools handle their autism programs is definitely not equal to the standards of the regular curriculum. Additional teaching instruction must be part of the overall curriculum goals for teachers with autistic students. The teachers and staff that are being hired to work with the autistic children in these programs in various schools need to realize that autistic children need extra guidance in learning how to do things. That does not mean that they are not capable from learning at all.
