National surveys conducted in 2008 and 2009 discovered a significant drop in the American public’s beliefs of climate change and trust in scientists. the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which is the most influential group in global warming awareness. However, the IPCC has undergone investigation after there were several mistakes found in the 4th Assessment report after Climagate. Despite the ongoing controversy that surrounds global warming, I believe global warming is still an issue the public should be concerned with; the people need to take into consideration all the factors involved instead of using Climategate as their sole source of evidence. Climategate may have created skepticism around the issue of global warming; however, the struggling economy, new Obama administration and Congress, lack of media attention and abnormal weather patterns must also be considered as important and influencing factors in the public’s de-prioritization of climate change.
