God in Genesis and the Roman Gods in the Aeneid

The gods in the Aeneid and God as portrayed in Genesis have many differences and few similarities but these similarities shine brighter than the differences. The gods and God are similar in that they show care and respect to humans who do the same to them and in that both have amazing powers that they use in their different ways. They differ in that through God in Genesis only using his powers to promote good in the world, while the gods in the Aeneid use their powers mainly to keep themselves happy. They also differ in that God wants everything in his image while the Roman gods just want to please themselves.

The gods in the Aeneid are both different and similar from God in Genesis. They are different in that those Roman gods are very vengeful and want to kill any humans that disrespect them. “Pallasne exurere classem Argivum atque ipsos potuit summergere ponto unius ob noxam et furias Ajacis Oilei?” (Aeneid Bk 1: 39b-41). They are similar since they care for where they were reared, married, and worshipped. “Juno fertur terris magis omnibus unam posthabita coluisse Samo:…hoc regnum dea gentibus esse, si qua fata sinant, jam tum tenditque fovetque….” (Bk 1: 15-16a, 17b-18). That is why those gods are powerful, vengeful, and caring.
